Selena Small

I’m Selena Small, an engineering leader with a generalist mindset and a focus on making things work in real teams. For the past eight years I’ve helped a fast-growing startup scale its people, systems, and product-engineering practices as it expanded into new markets.

My work has always combined two areas. I care about building solid engineering foundations, and I care about designing the people systems that support sustainable growth. I have led domain modelling efforts, strengthened delivery practices, designed a capability framework used across the organisation, coached emerging leaders, and guided teams through periods of change while still shipping valuable product outcomes.

I work at the intersection of engineering, product, and organisational design. Right now I am developing deeper skills in architecture, system design, and the leadership challenges created by AI-driven development. My focus is on becoming a well-rounded technology leader who can guide teams through rapid scale and evolving technical landscapes.

I also advise founders and early-stage teams on product-engineering alignment, team design, and practical technology decisions. I enjoy helping leaders create clarity and helping teams build work they are proud of.

This site is where I share what I’m learning, publish case studies, and document the craft of building and leading resilient engineering organisations.
